Composition No. 3
Gallery

The design for this amulet bag is based on Piet Mondrian's Composition No. 3 Blanc-Jaune. It uses opaque size 11/0 seed beads in white, black, royal blue, red, and yellow. The body of the piece is loomed, and the sides are sewn together using a technique that allows the seams to blend into the loomwork when they are pressed flat. The strap is a one-bead-wide square stitch chain, continuing the line of the seams. (It looks kinky here, but it lies flat with the weight of the bag on it.)

I had made another bag from this pattern, but I became unhappy with it because the rows had bunched up due to bad warp tension and slight differences in bead size, and my choices of colors and strap design weren't true enough to the simplicity of Mondrian's work. I'm much more pleased with the new one.
